Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions Asked by Applicants
-
Unfortunately, we don’t work one on one with individuals to assist them in finding a position, but we recommend signing up for our talent bank to stay in the loop and regularly checking our job board in case a role we’re hiring for may be a good fit for you.

Meso is different from a typical recruiting or hiring firm for many different reasons. We work directly with clients, who lead the hiring at their respective organizations and companies, to help make hiring processes more equitable. Meso's staff actively supports clients every step of the way in hopes that they will learn how to run equitable hiring processes themselves — everything that we do to make a process more equitable is explained to our clients in detail, and we also discuss what made their previous hiring processes biased and unjust. Our goal is to change the field we’re in, a field that claims to be progressive but ultimately has a history of only hiring certain types of people.

Meso aims to only work with organizations and companies in the social impact space, but we know that doesn’t always mean having equity centered values. We screen clients to make sure they aren’t doing things that don’t align with our values. Every once in a while we may work with a client that has made past missteps when it comes to diversity and inclusion, but we feel they’re ready to make a change that would benefit current and future staff. We refuse to put marginalized folks in positions that would be mentally and physically draining to them or even potentially unsafe. We will never work with clients where we feel like that may be an issue for applicants. If an applicant that was hired came forward to say they faced mistreatment by a client of ours, we would reach out to that client to discuss things and try to directly address the problem.

We do many things at Meso to make sure a hiring process is equitable. This includes getting rid of arbitrary education requirements, publicly posting salaries, and making sure clients are asking for reasonable expectations for a role. We also work with clients to build out interviews that are structured and equitable. We not only create interview questions that focus on the necessary skills for the role, but we also ask DEI questions that get to the root of an applicant’s understanding of racial and social justice. Every staff member at Meso was hired because of their commitment to racial and social justice in both their professional and personal lives, so it’s something our staff is always looking out for. Nowadays people know the words to say to come across as equitable — but we at Meso always joke that our staff have a special skill of being able to read between the lines and get to what a person is really saying about DEI!

Yes! We’ve done it before and would do it again, whether a client we’re working with is hiring for more than one role or when you might be a good fit for another client. Staff at Meso are always keeping an eye out for what would be most beneficial to applicants!

You can find all of the jobs Meso is hiring for on our jobs board! We are regularly updating it, so if you don’t see a role that fits you now we encourage you to check back later.
-
Clients work with Meso to review every candidate that we interview, which includes looking through their resumes to see if they’re a good fit for the role.
-
Clients are always involved in the hiring process! We have check-in calls with our clients on a regular basis. We work in collaboration with our clients, including discussion of the candidates, the interview questions, and more. It’s overall an extremely collaborative process, with clients working with us every step of the way. Clients are always a part of later interviews, and applicants who move forward are always allowed the opportunity to ask questions and meet team members.
-
While we work closely with our clients, the final decision is theirs. If you are offered a job, you will receive the offer letter and full details directly from the employer. We provide general support for the offer process, but can not participate directly in any negotiations.

Accessibility and Accommodations Policy
At Meso, we prioritize easy access to accommodations during the job application and interview stage. Disability is a protected class in the United States and it is your legal right to request accommodations without a negative impact on your potential for hire. We take these rights very seriously. We will work with you and our clients to ensure that you are protected and safe to the best of our ability.
At any stage prior to a job offer, you may reach out directly to Meso Solutions to make an accessibility request. You do not need to disclose your disability or any medical details to us. Any information regarding accessibility, accommodations, or disability disclosures will be used only for the application and interview process. We will hold any information you share in confidence, unless you give us permission to share further. However, the accommodation details (e.g. what is needed to make your process go well) will be shared with the client.

Workplace accommodation is a means of ensuring equal opportunity employment for people with disabilities. This can be many different things. We can never predict all needs, because they vary by individual. Common accommodations during the application and interview process may include things like more time to conduct an interview or translation services.
We know sharing your needs can be a hard thing to do. We encourage you to reach out to us and we will work with you to try to meet your needs.

Because we live in a remote world, we conduct applications and interviews online. Applicants typically fill out a brief written job application by submitting a resume and answering a few questions. Interviews can be 30 minutes to an hour (or more for executive positions). We use Zoom and other common video conferencing tools. Again, we will work with you to modify this process as needed. Reach out to us to chat.
